Jeep LED Fog Light Upgrades: Review of the Four Best Options.

If you are looking to upgrade your Jeep Wrangler JK fog lights, you’ve probably thought about making the switch to LED. Here is a video that talks about four of the most popular LED fog light options for the Jeep JK. This video will walk you through all the specs of the different LED fog lights, show you the pros and cons, and walk you through the installation of each light in a Jeep Wrangler JK front bumper. The video does go in-depth on each LED light, so we’ve broken the video down for you. After watching this video you’ll be ready to make the choice of what LED fog light is best for your Jeep JK.

This video reviews the Truck-Lite 80275, the JW Speaker 6045, the JW Speaker 6145, and the Vision X 2″ 10w Solstice Solo.

The first two LED Fog Lights reviewed for the Jeep JK are the Truck-Lite 80275, and the JW Speaker 6045. Both of these LED Lights are PAR36, 4.5″ lights, and as you can see from the video, both of these lights use extra brackets to mount them from behind the JK bumper. At 8:34 you can watch the steps to install both of these lights.

Here’s a quick look at the specifications of the Truck-Lite 80275 and the beam pattern it gives off. The 80275 is a great cost saving option for new LED fog lights especially if you already have the Truck-lite LED headlights.

Here’s a look at the specifications of the JW Speaker 6145. The design is a little smaller than the 6045 predecessor, but that allows the light to fit just as well as the original stock fog light housing. Here you’ll also see the impressive beam pattern that has a great color.

And the last LED fog light reviewed is the Vision X 2″ 10w Solstice Solo. Here you’ll see the specs and the beam pattern. This fog light was designed for off-road use and gives off a long beam of direct light.

Truck-Lite 80275 Review Video and Jeep Install Tricks

If you own a Jeep Wrangler, you’ve probably looked at upgrading the foglights and headlights on it with HID or LED. Finally there is a really good, in depth review about a popular Jeep LED fog light option. The video is located here, but it’s pretty long so we broke it down for you. Just click on each section below to watch that part of the video. This video talks about the features of the PAR36 (4.5″)  80275 LED Light from Truck-Lite. Installation of the Truck-Lite 80275 is shown in a Jeep Wrangler JK bumper as a fog light.

The Truck-Lite 80275 is an affordable LED replacement for the common PAR36 size light. The Truck-Lite 80275 gives 280 lumens, draws .84 Amps of power, is DOT Approved, has a 3-year warranty, and is made in the USA.

At 5:07 in the video you can see different versions of LED PAR 36 lights: The JW Speaker 6045  is a more costly LED replacement for the Par 36 size light, but is much brighter. The JW Speaker gives 750 lumens, is DOT approved, has a life-time warranty, and is made in the USA.

At around 6:23 in the video you can see different types of mounts like a universal rubber PAR36 pedestal mount that will work for any of these lights.  Shown here is a rubber mount and pedestal to hold and mount the light. This would be a great option for fog lights mounted on the top of a bumper.

At 6:54 in the video a different type of mounting bracket is shown. These are aluminum fog light brackets for mounting the 4.5″ LED lights to the inside of a Jeep Wrangler JK bumper. These brackets are installed from behind the bumper and clamp the light firmly in place. Watch here for some great tips and tricks to get the best fit possible for a LED housing replacement.

At 12:36 you can see different wire harness adapters that make the Truck-Lite 80275 plug into the factory Jeep fog light wiring without any modifications. The new Truck-Lite LED replacements can be manually soldered and hardwired in, but an adapter is available for an easier plug and play install. The first is a 9145 style fog light bulb adapter, (common in 07-09 Jeep Wranglers) and the second a 2504 style fog light bulb adapter for 2009 and up Wranglers.

Lastly, at around 15:28 you get to see  the products in action. The original stock fog light bulbs in the Jeep JK are somewhat dim and yellow.  Here you can see how much brighter and whiter the different LED fog light replacements are. The fact that these products can be used largely as a plug and play upgrade is pretty exciting to anyone who needs brighter, whiter lights in the fog location.

Truck-Lite LED Headlight Copies Found at SEMA 2013!

This year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV was definitely the year of LED lighting products! It was pretty incredible to see all the different products, and of course there were many copies of LED products. Many of the popular LED light bar products from last year now have Chinese knock-offs this year, and the same is true with the Truck-Lite 27270C 7″ Round LED headlight commonly used in Jeeps and Motorcycles:

The original Truck-Lite headlight on top and the 2 new 7" Round LED copies below it.

The original Truck-Lite headlight on top and the 2 new 7″ Round LED copies below it.

The new KC Hi-Lites 7″ round LED headlight are actually made by Peterson Manufacturing, and they call it the model #701C, you can see more information about the original Peterson version here: Peterson Manufacturers 701C

Now don’t get me wrong, I understand why KC Hi-Lites hired Peterson Manufacturing to brand these lights for for them, because that’s what KC Hi-Lites does – they see a product they think they can re-brand that already exists, stamp their logo on it and pretend they came up with the idea in the first place, kind of like their new “KC Flex” LED offroad lights which are made by Heretic Studios and re-branded.

The Peterson Manufacturing product is absolutely a knock-off because the design is extremely similar, and according to this press release the product was released in July of 2013 – over a year later than the Truck-Lite products.

The Anzo product on the other hand is kind of pathetic. The oddly-shaped divider between the high and low beam sections MUST have a negative impact on the light output and just like everything else made by Anzo, they are a Chinese knockoff of the traditional Truck-Lite product.

Anzo is un-apologetically copying a unique American design by Truck-Lite.

Anzo is un-apologetically copying a unique American design by Truck-Lite.

I would like to, in the very near future, get my hands on one of each of these headlights and do kind of a shoot-out competition to see which one really is the best, but for now I thought it would be good to just show you the two new lights that are coming out to compete for market share against the original Truck-Lite product.

What are LED Headlights?

LED stands for “Light Emitting Diode” and the technology has come leaps and bounds in just last last couple of years, and every 6 months or so the potential for LED forward lighting proves to be more and more the new industry leader. 10 years ago the idea of an LED headlight was unheard of because the only thing LEDs were being used for were indicators in electronic devices and they didn’t make nearly enough light output to be used to actually see anything with.

The original style LEDs are not suitable for headlight applications.

The original style LEDs are not suitable for headlight applications.

Back in the day, way back when, one of the first types of automobile or carraige “head lamps” were glass jars which held a candle inside. This probably didn’t do a whole lot in terms of being able to see a long distance, but the vehicles of that age didn’t go very far so it didn’t matter. As automobile technology and average speed increased, the need for brighter and more reliable headlights did as well. The evolution of the headlamp started at that very rudimentary candle setup to incandescent halogen, then to HID and just recently LED technology has begun to overtake all other options. This is because of lifespan, durability, power consumption and ever-increasing Lumen production capability. LED tech is quickly proving to be the lighting source of choice for everyone.

Jeep Wrangler JK no flashing problems

The JW Speaker 8700 LED headlights will replace any existing. 7″ round housing.

Today there are several companies specializing in high-power LED headlights, and most are even DOT approved for use on city streets and highways. JW Speaker is probably the best known LED headlight manufacturer because currently they produce what is considered to be the best LED headlight in the world. The JW Speaker LED headlights are brighter than competitors, and are quite nice looking overall. Next you have Truck-Lite who is also a pioneer in the LED headlight market, when they came out with their Phase 6 7″ round light several years ago. Today, Truck-Lite LED headlights are much brighter than stock lights, cheaper than JW Speaker and use new parabolic reflector technology. Lastly, GTR Lighting has recently entered the LED headlight market with a 4×6″ and 6″ round products that are far cheaper than the others, but GTR Lighting LED headlights are still brighter than stock.

Jeep Lighting

The Jeep Wrangler is a fantastic platform for using LED headlights because many manufacturers sell the 7″ round size of LED headlight.

If you’re interested in upgrading the forward lighting of your vehicle, I would strongly encourage you consider the LED headlight option due to it’s superiority to halogen incandescent or in some cases even HID. I suspect that within the next 5 years HID technology will be obsolete when compared with LED in terms of the best fit for automotive lighting.

In the Jeep and Harley communities, one of the latest hot topics are replacement LED headlights. The two most popular items being the JW Speaker 8700 and the Truck-Lite 27270CC 7″ round replacement LED headlight housings.

Watch this video review of the Truck-Lite headlights I did where I compare it to the JW Speaker variant. You’ll get a good idea about this new headlight and if you think the JW Speaker 8700 is worth the money when compared to the Trucklite product:

JW Speaker 8800 4×6″ LED Headlights

165mm rectangular LED Headlights

The #8800 LED Headlight from JW Speaker is a 4×6″ rectangular LED headlight replacement housing.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… LED technology is taking over the world! The incredible light output reached by LED forward lighting products today is nearly as potent as any xenon product of any style, and it won’t be much longer until LED is king of the hill in every regard. Because I see the future of lighting technology trending towards Light Emitting Diodes, I want you to see this headlight, developed and manufactured in America, by a company called JW Speaker, from Wisconsin. J.W. Speaker produces high-end LED lighting products for industrial, commercial and aftermarket purposes.

Dual LED Headlights JW Speaker 8800

LED Headlights are commonly found in older vehicles and modern day semi trucks.

The majority of the LED headlights JW Speaker is making are designed to replace old style sealed beam headlight housings with new LED technology. This is because one of the largest lighting industries in the world still use standardized sealed beam type headlights: Semi trucks and military vehicles. This industrial market fuels the growth of LED headlight development, and although there are still not many 4×6″ rectangular LED headlights available, this one is the best.
